A Break in the Circle and How it Caused a Big Lesson in Holding Sacred Space
Debrief: A sacred circle & signs we missed part 1 of 3 If you’re awakening, these energetic errors might feel familiar—read on to check your own path.
Welcome to Sanctum with Eve — a space for realignment through sound, energy, and reflection. This is more than a newsletter. It’s an invitation to soften, to return, and to remember what’s already within you.
Here, we walk together — through the deeper layers of self, shadow, and wisdom — exploring spiritual practice, Reiki, dreamwork, sound, and the unseen rhythms shaping our lives. You’ll find reflections, resources, and real stories that speak to integration — to the lived, daily embodiment of your spiritual awakening.
Thank you so much for the comments on the post about making mistakes when we first start working with divine energy and beings. 🙏🏻 If you haven’t read it, this post will make a lot more sense if you read that one first! ←Click.
There were 4 major lessons in the post, Reading the Signs: The Early Days. Let’s look at Sacred Circles—one of the foundations of protection and boundary work with spirit. Then, over the next 2 months I’ll teach you how to make a sacred circle and go over the other lessons.
Let’s explore what I didn’t know I didn’t know, and, in the comment let me know your thoughts.
What would you add about the relationship between the practitioner and their circle?
How else do you perceive or use circles?
Sacred Circle
For as long as we have records, we have information about people gathering and holding space in circles. Circles reflect the perfection and continuity of nature—no beginning, no end.
In sacred geometry, the circle represents wholeness, unity, the divine feminine, the womb of creation. It is a container for spiritual presence and energetic coherence. When people sit in circle, there is no hierarchy.
All are seen. All are heard. All are equal.
When working in a sacred circle that has been energetically charged, there is an agreement that you will be there till work of the circle ends. Getting up for any reason alters the circle. There is now a hole and that can create an energetic imbalance.
Fortunately, during the session, I knew this so I scooted over and opened my arms to fill the space when my co-facilitator suddenly got up and left the circle. Nothing, aside from the music fiasco happened.
Against the Flow
Both facilitators have to be on the same track as to which way the flow of the energy is going. One facilitator was working clockwise and the other walking counterclockwise. When we are not in alignment this impacts the working of the circle.
There’s no single “correct” way to set a circle. There are even disagreements about the purpose of going clockwise or counterclockwise and what that does to the energy.
Clockwise circles are often used in certain cultures for building, growing, or energizing something.
Counterclockwise circles are sometimes used for releasing, clearing, or transforming energy.
Lessons learned: touch base before the ceremony and align how you are going to be building the energy of the circle together, how you each prefer it to be maintained during the session, and honor the agreement you craft together.
What are some of the ways that you use circles? Would you add anything to the analysis? Leave a message in the comments.
With so much love to you!
~Eve
P.S. As you can see, when I first started out, there was a lot for me to learn! Again, this series of posts isn’t meant to be a judgment, rather lessons learned about the nature of how to read the signage that spirit often sends us.
We are all learning.
This was helpful! I refected on a mediation I had where a vision had elements going clockwise. Given the intention I'd set before mediation, now I understand the "message." Way cool!
